You’ll find Castle View Restaurant within the beautiful Broomhall Castle in Menstrie, on the Hillfoots Trail. So today, we’ve rounded up some of the best local walks for you to enjoy during your visit to Menstrie…

Hillfoots Trail

The Hillfoots is a collection of villages that sit, as the name suggests, at the southern foot of the Ochil Hills in Scotland. They comprise Blairlogie, Menstrie, Alva, Tillicoultry, Devonside, Coalsnaughton, Dollar and finally, Muckhart. The Hillfoots Trail is a 15.7-mile route along these villages, beginning in Blairlogie and ending in Muckhart. It takes up to 5 hours to complete the walk on foot, but is also split into two smaller sections if that’s too much. Walking directions >

Red Carr Wood

This large community wood, also known as Menstrie Wood, has lots of wide foot paths, plenty of wildlife and a variety of trees and plants to explore. Not far from us here at Castle View, it’s a gentle local walk. Look out for a variety of birdlife, red and grey squirrels, roe deer and so much more! More information >

Dumyat Hill (hill path)

Just a short drive from here, Dumyat Hill is an easy to moderate hillwalk, via the path which avoids the steepest parts of the hill. It takes 2 to 3 hours to complete. Well worth it for the wonderful views overlooking Stirling and beyond. Start at Pendreich car park and then follow the gentle path to the summit. Walking directions >

Balquharn Glen

This walk starts at Ochil Row in Menstrie. It’s short but challenging, taking you to the summit of Myreton Hill in the Ochils and then along to Balquharn Glen and its reservoir. Take care, as this walk is steep and rough in places, but great for experienced walkers. Walking directions >
